Golden Eagles take three of four in Rangely

After starting conference play against the best, the College of Eastern Utah baseball team now settles in to face the rest.
They started off winning three out of four games over the Spartans of Colorado Northwestern Community College. The Golden Eagle team improved on their conference record, which now stands at 3-5. They have an overall record of 10-12.
On Friday the Golden Eagles opened the double-header against CNCC up with a 4-2 win. The second game of the double header was a shutout for the Eagles with a final score 5-0.
On Saturday CEU couldn't slow the Spartan bats as the Eagles dropped the first of the day's double header 6-4. But CEU bounced right back in the second game and their bats came alive as they scored double digits. They took the final game with a decisive 11- 1 victory over CNCC.
In the first of Friday's match-ups, right hander, Nathan Rink is credited with the win. Brad Brinkerhoff came on in relief and Cameron Schmidt got the save. CEU scored their four runs on nine hits.
In the second game the five runs for the Eagles came off 12 hits. Dusty Fackrell recorded two RBIs on 2/4 hitting. Third baseman Eric Morgan went 3/4 from the plate.
CEU's Jesse Hartle a right hander got the win with six strike outs in seven innings. Jacob Zumbrennen recorded the save.
On Saturday CEU's Devin Bybee picked up two RBIs. CEU managed six hits for the four runs as they scored three in the second inning and a run in the 4th. The Spartans scored four of their six runs in fifth inning. Golden Eagle pitcher, Josh Swenson was recorded with the loss.
In the final battle, the first inning was huge as CEU racked up nine runs. Seven different players for the Eagles scored in this game.
Lefty Brennan Hallows was the winning pitcher for CEU as the team recorded nine hits and didn't commit any errors as the successful weekend wound down.
CEU will host the SLCC Bruins this Friday and Saturday for four more conference games. Friday's first game starts at 1 p.m. Saturday the first game starts at noon. Double-headers will be played on both days.
