James Wayman and Darwin Christensen discuss city maintenance issues with the East Carbon Council. Training and city departments were closely examined at East Carbon’s regularly scheduled council meeting on March 10. The city took another step forward concerning their fire department as they made Chief Darrell Valdez a city employee and increased his responsibilities in the city. The municipality also increased the stipend paid to volunteer firefighters. Valdez is currently certifying all city firefighters and working to have better interagency cooperation throughout the county. The current firefighter one training includes East Carbon City, Sunnyside and Scofield volunteers.
