Lady Eagles taken out in first round
By TERRY WILLIS Sports reporter
The CEU Lady Eagles finished their season playing strong, but they weren't strong enough to step over the top of Salt Lake Community College to move on in the single elimination Scenic West Athletic tournament. They ended up one and out after a 71-54 loss to the Lady Bruins.
During the Thursday game defense and turnovers was the theme for the first half. CEU led SLCC 7-6 early then SLCC went on a 4-0 run. But by the halfway point of the first half CEU cut the lead back to one on a Kasey Day offensive rebound and put back. From there on out it was all the Bruins as the Eagles went ice cold from the field.
Amber Strong started the second half off with a three but SLCC went on another run before Stacey Stringham got an old fashion three point play.
SLCC biggest lead was 21 points. CEU never recovered from the big SLCC run and ended up losing by 17.
Kaylie Robison finished the game with 21 points and eight rebounds. Teammate Veronica Siqueiros added 11. Poor shooting from the field (28 percent) and from the free throw line 12/27 (44.4 percent) made it hard to win, especially on the road.
The Lady Eagles finish the 08-09 season with a 15-16 record. They picked up some good wins over Snow and Salt Lake on the way.
