Lady Eagles win one, lose one to end regular season action
After sweeping Snow College, the College of Eastern Utah Lady Golden Eagles felt confident going into their final two home games against SLCC. They walked away with a split and are still playing some of their best ball of the season. On Friday they beat the Lady Bruins 78-74, however, in the Saturday match-up it was Salt Lake who came out on top 86-82.
With the Friday "W" CEU picked up their third straight conference win as the season wound down to the last two conference games. Despite a low shooting percentage, hitting only 25 of 67 shots for 37 percent average, the Lady Eagles still prevailed and played some fierce defense to force SLCC into 31 turnovers. The ladies drained six three pointers while SLCC only hit three from beyond the arc.
Adrianna Cordova led the team with 15 followed by Veronica Siqueiros 14 points.
Layton's Amber Strong was a major force on defense with five steals and Kaylie Robison cleaned up the boards with eight rebounds.
On Saturday, CEU found their stroke again as they shot 50 percent from the floor. But they still lost the game, because the Lady Bruins outshot CEU, hitting 55 percent from the floor.
Strong hit for 18 points, and Robison added 16 to lead the team. Kasey Day and Libby Alon both put up 11 points giving the Lady Eagles four players in double figures.
The team ends the regular season at 15-15. The Saturday loss puts the Lady Eagles in fifth place in the SWAC standings with SLCC finishing fourth.
CEU will play on Thursday, March 5 just before the CEU men's team at 5:30 p.m. They will meet up with SLCC for a fourth time this year. However, this time it will be on a neutral court as the single elimination tournament host will be North Idaho in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. The winner of this first round game will play number one seed CSI on Friday, March 6. The lower half of the bracket has North Idaho playing Snow College.
