For the Carbon Lady Dino basketball squad, Tuesday night's game was a chance to solidify a home game for the state tournament play-in game.

For the 0-8 Lady Soaring Eagles of Juan Diego it was one of their last chances to get a region win before the season draws to an end for them. Not surprisingly it was the Lady Dinos who met their goal and left Juan Diego winless for another day. Carbon easily took the game 53-19.

Carbon Coach Cami Carlson felt like her team started our rather tentative. Still they found themselves up 11-3 at the first break. With the exception of a low scoring third quarter, the Dinos more than doubled the tally in each period to cruise to victory.

"Juan Diego wanted a win and what they lacked in skill, they tried to make up for with physical play," stated Carlson about the game, "It was very physical and that was good for our girls. They need to play a bit tougher. Our post players, Emily Cox, Britni Greenwood, Karlee Martino and Joy Malone got physical when they needed to and I was glad to see that."

Patricia Smith took it to the Lady Soaring Eagles with 18 points. Emily Cox was named player of the game for her work on the boards pulling in rebounds and finishing with 10 points.

With the home advantage taken care of, the Dinos set their sights on the Thursday game against Delta. They expect it to be a battle as Delta would like to avenge an earlier season loss to the Lady Dinos and are looking to stay ahead of North Sanpete in the standings for third place honors.

The game will be at the Carbon High gym at 7 p.m. with a pre-game ceremony honoring the senior basketball players, the cheerleaders and dance team members.
