MRI executes agreement for uranium mill project
Mancos Resources Inc. has signed an escrow agreement for the purchase of property to develop a uranium mill complex near Green River.
The agreement with Castleland Resource Conservation and Development involves the purchase of a lot in Emery County's Mancos Hills Industrial Park approximately six miles northwest of the town.
Signing the agreement is the culmination of a yearlong site selection process, indicated the company. MRI's selection criteria focused on human safety and environmental protection through geographic, physiographic and geologic characteristics.
The proposed complex will include permanent on-site uranium tailings disposal, applying the United States Department of Energy's remedial action project design used at Crescent Junction.
The UMTRA facility is the final disposal site for tailings relocated from the historic mill near Moab.
MRI's proposed complex will be designed to process 1,200 tons per day, with the potential for scaling up to 1,800 tons or more per day. The project is in the permitting and design phase, with an estimated start up date in 2012.
Public consultation, baseline environmental and geotechnical assessments have begun and MRI has also commenced the selection process for design-build engineering firms.
