The Dinos started the week off against Salem Hills. It was a hard fought battle, but in the end it was the Skyhawks downing the Dinos 67-61.

The Wednesday night battle started out pretty evenly. Fouls plagued Salem early and the Dinos took advantage and hit most of their gifts to keep even. The game was close at the half with the Dinos trailing by three. But the absence of Tysen Stevens (broken wrist) and Keny Seals (ankle injury) took its toll against a tall, strong team like the Skyhawks.

In the third, the Dino offense struggled and they fell behind several times only to edge the score back within four. It was much of the same early in the fourth before they finally got themselves within striking distance.

A late defensive rally excited the crowd as the Dinos forces several turnovers. But Carbon couldn't hit crucial shots when they needed them to steal the lead. The Skyhawks survived the final push and left with the six point win.

Joey Keller had another big game with 21 points and five rebounds. Dayton Martindale scored 12. Ryan Rasmussen dished out six assists, three steals and poured in seven points.

"They played hard, but we are missing two of our big players and that hurt us. Salem Hills crashed the boards more than we did. That's where we lost the game, is on the boards. We couldn't stop them and their second chance points were the difference. Our kids played hard the whole game and never quit. Now we have to go to Juan Diego and that is going to be another tough one," stated coach Bianco after the game.

And tough it was. The Dinos started out strong on Friday night against the Soaring Eagles. They stayed within two in the first quarter against a smothering Juan Diego defense. But the Soaring Eagle attack slowed down Carbon enough that the lead grew to nine by the half.

The Dinos pretty much held serve in the third as they only let the lead increase by one, but never could make up any ground. It was an intense game but in the end, the Soaring Eagles moved their conference record to 4-0 while the Dinos dropped back to 1-3.

Despite the swarming defense, Juan Diego couldn't contain Carbon's Joey Keller. Keller led all scorers with 22 points on the night, to be the only Dino in double figures.

Carbon has a chance to make a move in the standings next week. The Dinos host Delta (1-3) on Wednesday and then get to face North Sanpete (0-4) on the road Friday. Tip-off for the game Wednesday is at 7 p.m. in the Carbon High Gym.
