After a painful loss to Wasatch, the Carbon girl's basketball team had little time to feel sorry for themselves as they faced another big game against highly rated Grantsville on Tuesday. The girls knew this would be a pivotal game for them as the headed into region play next week.

For a while it appeared that the Cowboys would hand the Lady Dinos their second loss of the season, when the team righted their ship and rallied for a huge 56-53 victory. The Dinos are now 10-1 on the season as they head into region play.

In the first quarter, both teams stayed pretty even with Grantsville on top 14-12. Carbon's offense went dead in the second with only six points. The Dinos did not get to the line at all in the first half of play.

Despite a motivating locker room speech by Coach Carlson at the half, the Dinos found their hole deepen to 13 in the third before the rally began. Grantsville came out and hit a three and then put up three more with a hoop and a foul to increase their margin over the Dinos.

But never fear, Carbon put their famous press on and Patricia Smith found her stroke as she popped a pair of threes followed by her sister Samantha with a trey of her own. Just like that Dinos were right back in it. They outscored the Cowboys by three in the third and then crushed them by seven in the fourth to wipe out the deficit and win by three.

"I told them at the half that we didn't care how far down we got, don't give up. We can still come back and win this thing and they said OK. You can say that all you want and most teams wouldn't believe you, but this team does and makes it happen," said Carlson after the game. "If we had only lost by a point or two I would have still be proud of how they fought back. It wouldn't have been as sweet, but still a gutty team effort."

Patricia Smith exploded for a career high 31 points and was named the Carbon player of the game. Julia Potts added 12 points and pulled in 10 rebounds to be named team "Garbage Girl." Smith went 9-9 from the line in the second half and Potts hit 6-7 free throws. Together Potts and Smith combined for 43 of the 56 points the Dinos scored.

The Dinos are sitting in the catbird seat as they enter region play next week against North Sanpete at home on Tuesday. They will be the team to beat and everyone will be gunning for them. Carbon has to face a tough Emery team on Thursday down in Castle Dale as well. It will be an exciting start to the run for the title for the Lady Dinos next week.
