Falcons hold off Dinos late comeback

In a Friday night match-up that looked like it might be a blow-out, the Dinos made a fourth quarter rally and fell just short of a win. The Canyonview Falcons held in the end and beat Carbon, 55-50, in a wild and physical game.

The Dinos came out flat against the Falcons and quickly found themselves down by seven. The Falcons scored at will in the first quarter before the Dinos settled down to play some defense.

The second and third quarter were evenly matched. And the Dinos found themselves down by 10 in the fourth. In the middle of that quarter, the Dinos were able to make a small offensive run and close the gap. And with 45.6 seconds left on the clock the Falcon lead was cut to three and it looked like the Dinos might finish them off.

But it was not to be.

The Dinos could not hit the free shots they needed to take the lead and in the end lost the game by a margin much closer than the first quarter of play would have reflected.

Joey Keller had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Dino effort. Ryan Rasmussen had five assists, three steals and seven points.

For Coach Bianco the loss was a little disappointing, "It was nice to see the team battle hard like that in the end, but we can't start like we did, no defensive effort at the start of the game and expect to win. The way they played was not the team you saw in December, they just were flat footed. We had some really good effort from several players off the bench in the second quarter. I put them in and it made the starters wake up. They got the message and came in and played hard after that. I am still pleased with the comeback effort of the team as a whole but you can't give the opposition that kind of lead."

The team wraps up their pre-season with a home game against Kanab this Saturday. The varsity will take the floor at 3:30 p.m.
