UDOT asks for snow removal cooperation from residents and businesses

The Utah Department of Transportation encourages business and homeowners to use on-site snow storage areas to improve traveler safety on State Roads.

In the face of several past and approaching storms, UDOT warns that snow being pushed from driveways and parking lots onto state roads and highways causes a severe safety hazard to motorists. It is also an illegal practice (Utah Code 72-7-102).

UDOT asks that local business owners, homeowners, and private property owners place the snow from their own driveways and parking lots onto areas within their own property limits.

"We are making a concerted effort in our own snow removal practices to keep the snow that falls on State Roads within our designated storage areas," said Scott Snow of UDOT's Cedar District. "We are asking private property owners to also designate areas on their own property to store the snow removed from their own driveways and parking lots."

"Our goal is to improve traveler safety," added Dale Stapley of UDOT's Price District. "To do this during snow storms, we need the cooperation of private property owners."
