SUNNYSIDE/RIFLE, Colo. - Elizabeth "Bessie" Paterson, 85 of Rifle, Colo., passed away Dec. 17, 2008 at E. Dene Moore Care Center.
Bessie was born to Robert and Mary (Gallaher) Moffat in Scotland on Nov. 8, 1923. She married David Paterson in Grangemouth, Scotland, in 1946.
They immigrated to Canada in 1967 and then moved to Sunnyside in 1972. They both became citizens of the Unites States in 1978. They moved to Rifle, Colo., in 2004 to be closer to family.
Bessie enjoyed golfing, fishing, camping, gardening, arts and crafts and spending time with her family.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rifle, Colo., since 2004.
She is survived by her loving husband, David; daughters, Mary Coyle of Scotland and Dorothy (Ian) Fearon of Colorado; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and eight brothers and sisters.
A viewing is planned Tuesday, Dec. 23, at 9 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rifle, Colo. Mass of Christian burial will follow at 10 a.m., after which she will be going home to Scotland for burial. Rifle Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the charity of your choice in Bessie's name.
