The Utah Department of Transportation encourages Carbon County residents to use on-site snow storage areas to improve traveler safety on state roads.

UDOT warns people that snow being pushed from driveways and parking lots onto highways causes a severe safety hazard to motorists. It is also an illegal practice under state code.

UDOT asks local residents and businesses to place the snow from driveways and parking lots onto areas on private property.

"Our goal is to improve traveler safety," pointed out Dale Stapley of UDOT's Price district. "To do this during snow storms, we need the cooperation of private property owners."

In addition to requesting the public's support, UDOT is making a concerted effort to keep the snow that falls on state roads within the agency's designated storage areas.
