Carbon County Sheriff James Cordova hands off checks for $1000 to Amanda Hester and Taylor Palmer, the recipients of scholarships from this years Utah Sheriffs' Association. Hester is a graduate of Carbon High and is presently attending CEU. She will soon be starting at Utah Valley State College and hopes to go into criminal forensics. Palmer is a graduate of East Carbon High and is now attending UVSC and hopes to go into some aspect of criminal law. Overall, the Utah organization awarded 31 scholarships in 18 counties across the state.

"These scholarships are specifically for those going into some aspect of criminology," explained Cordova. "Our organization solicits funds from private individuals for these scholarships by mail each spring. That is the only way we solicit funds for these awards, so people who may be contacted personally by individuals at their door or on the phone should be suspicious of where the money is going."
