Carbon Dino basketball hits center court with tough loss
By TERRY WILLIS Sun Advocate reporter
First game of the season began with a long road trip over to the Uintah Basin to take on the Uintah Utes. The Utes took advantage of their home court and beat the Dinos 66-54.
Carbon held it even in the first quarter with both teams posting nine. Then the Utes began to pull away in each period as the game went on. Still in it by the end of the third, Uintah pulled away in the fourth and handed Carbon an opening season loss.
Coach Ted Bianco was matter of fact about the first game, "We saw some good things and a let down. They didn't play terrible, but they played good enough to lose and we have to do better than that. We have things we have to work on. It is just good to have a game under our belts and move ahead.
He went on to say, "We need to execute our offense and play better team defense. They missed easy shots in the paint. Our three point shots were great. It's the oppposite of what you would think."
Joey Keller stepped it up and was the only Dino in double figures. Sophomore Clint Finkbiner came off the bench and had a hat trick from beyond the arc. He had three treys on the night. All in all the Dinos sunk 21 of their points from downtown.
Carbon heads to Colorado for the weekend to take part in the Warrior Challenge in Grand Junction. This will be a tough test for Carbon as it takes on bigger schools and will play three games in three nights.
It will be December 17 before they play on their home court. That game will be against Park City andf will tip off at 7 p.m.
