Two Duchesne County women were critically injured Saturday following a single-vehicle rollover crash near Price.

Lt. Steve Winward, a spokesman for the Utah Department of Public Safety, said Noemi Christensen of Roosevelt was driving a pickup truck on state Road 10 in Carbon County at about 1 p.m. when she apparently fell asleep. The truck went off the road on the left side, down an embankment and rolled.

Emergency personnel had to extricate Christensen, and her passengers, Yesenia Quick and Quick's toddler-age son, from the truck. Winward said the two women were flown by medical helicopter to a Salt Lake area hospital with critical injuries.

"They are going to survive," Winward said, noting that Christensen suffered a spinal injury and Quick suffered head and neck injuries. "The passenger was the more critically injured of the two."

The lieutenant said Quick's son, who was in a child restraint seat, escaped injury. Christensen and Quick were wearing seat belts, he said.

Units from the Utah Highway Patrol and Carbon County Sheriff's Department along with rescue personnel from the Price Fire Department responded to the mishap.

The trio was returning from a trip to California to visit Christensen's daughter over the Thanksgiving holiday.
