Spooks prepare to trick, treat for donations to restock shelves at county's food pantry
A local event planned Oct. 29 and Oct. 31 will focus on restocking the depleted shelves at the Carbon County Food Bank.
From 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday and Friday, large spooks will visit local residences tricking or treating for canned and non-perishable packaged food items.
All donated canned and packaged food gathered during the Halloween activity will be delivered to the local pantry in Price.
Carbon County residents who are not visited during the activity may call the organizers at 613-5264. College of Eastern Utah students will respond to the telephone calls, pick up donations and transport the items to the food bank.
College of Eastern Utah student wins AWS skills USA Preweld-off challenge
CEU student Mason Winters finished in first place overall at the American Welding Societies's skills USA Preweld-off challenge.
"Our next step is finishing in the top three in Las Vegas on Oct. 6-8 for the U.S. Open Weld Trials," said instructor Mike Tryon, before the meet.
Winters then won the competition in Las Vegas and recieved a gold medal for his accomplishments. Now he will go to an international competition in Ireland.
The top three three top finalists from the Las Vegas competition, which includes Winters, will represent the U.S. at the World Skills competition in Calgary-Alberta, Canada in 2009.
Department of Wildlife Resources to conduct checkpoints during October
The Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR) will be conducting administrative checkpoints throughout southeastern Utah during the month of October.
Motorists can anticipate encountering checkpoints and conservation officers, who may inspect vehicles and question occupants with regard to hunting and wildlife regulations.
While conducting wildlife compliance checks, officers will deal with any other criminal violations that may be encountered.
"Enforcement of criminal law and wildlife regulations protect us all and safeguards our wildlife resources," said a DWR press release.
