County sheriff's office investigates election sign incident
Steve Tanner cleans up melted plastic in the roadway in front of his house in Carbonville last Thursday.
The night before, someone apparently gathered the school board election campaign signs placed by his wife along streets in Westwood, west Price and Carbonville.
The signs were reportedly piled in front of the Tanner home and lit on fire. Law enforcement officers took an incident report and are investigating the matter.
Carbon County Attorney Gene Strate indicated that the person or persons responsible for the incident could be charged with criminal mischief or possibly theft. Depending on the value of the signs, suspects convicted in connection with the incident could face a fine ranging up to $1,000 and six months in jail.
Residents who have information regarding the case or who witnessed suspicious behavior during the night of Oct. 22-23 are urged to contact the Carbon County Sheriff's Office.
