Carbon VB claims another region title
By TERRY WILLIS Sun Advocate reporter
With a decisive 25-10, 25-21, 25-15 win over Salem Hills Tuesday night, the Carbon High volleyball team wrapped up another region title this season.
With a two game lead over Juan Diego and only a game left to play, the lady Dinos showed they are again a top team in the state.
After a not so good performance against Emery last week, the Dinos came out and put a hurt on a desperate Salem Hills squad. After the quick work they made of Sky Hawks in game one, the Dinos let their guard down and found themselves playing from behind in game two. Chantel Jensen served the final seven points to bring home the come from behind win for the team. Carbon quit messing around and made the final game one to be proud of and ended things on a high note.
Jensen ended up with nine service aces in the match. She had one of her best nights behind the line so far this year. Britni Greenwood led the team's offense with 14 kills and Julia Potts again dished out most of the assists with 27.
"They played a lot better than the Emery game. They know when they aren't playing well. We did have a bit of a let down in game two and they had to play catch up, but they can get it done," commented coach Cristin Johnson. "We have one more tough game to go undefeated, but we are happy with the region championship. I can't believe how fast things have gone this season.
It gets us where we want to be for the tournament. If we had taken second we would be in the upper bracket with pretty tough teams, not that we don't have some good competition in our bracket."
The team plays its final regular season game against Delta this Thursday night at the Carbon High school gym starting at 7 p.m. A win would give them their second consecutive undefeated season of region play.
