Salem Hills Hawks spear Dinos to garner first win
Time is running out on another Dino football season. Salem Hills handed them their eighth loss as they took it to Carbon 42-6.
With neither team having garnered a win yet this year, it started out fairly evenly matched. The Dinos forced the Sky Hawks to punt on their first two possessions. Unfortunately, Carbon's offense was unable to move the ball and quick three and out possessions didn't give the defense a chance to rest. Finally worn down, they began to give up yards and points as Salem Hills piled up 36 in the first half.
If the game were reduced to second half action, the Dinos might have come out on top. Both teams held each other to a single touchdown and missed kick. Carbon's only score came in the fourth on a 41 yard pass from Blake Najera to Tysen Stevens.
A frustrated Coach Paur remarked, "I seriously thought we had a chance to win this one. We played better against Delta than we did last night. It was pure self destruction." he went on to say. "The only thing I can do at this point is focus on the positive aspects of the team and continue to try and build on them. We have been going through great adversity. I have never been in this position before. I need to look at what did we learn. This causes me to wonder about what is really important in life. We have a great group of kids with some of the best character around. It just doesn't translate into wins."
Things do not look any brighter for the Dinos next week when they travel up to play powerhouse Juan Diego. This game will be Thursday night instead of Friday. The Carbon JV will play on Wednesday night, not Thursday.
