Carbon high swings true, brings home region eight championship
Carbon high has won the region eight title for the second year in a row and it couldn't have come at a better place. The team played their final region golf match of the year at the Carbon Country Club, their home course, and came away with a five shot victory over Juan Diego. Going into the match the Dinos held a 38 shot lead over two teams tied for second place, Juan Diego and Salem Hills, so they were expected to win region with that much of a lead, and they didn't disappoint anyone.
Leading the way for the Dinos was Jordan Pinedo who finished the day with a 73 and took the individual medalist honors for the final match. Gage Bigelow played his best round of the year and scored a 77 for the team. Corbin Black ended the day with a 79 and Ethan Jenks shot an 81 to round out the scoring for the team. North Sanpete qualified one individual, Trevyn Tucker, who was the top individual player in region eight. Emery qualified two players, Jason Giles and Mark Guymon, since both finished in the top 10 individuals in the Region.
Jordan Pinedo finished in 2nd place overall in the individual race in Region 8 and Corbin Black finished in 3rd place. Both were named to the First Team All-Region by virtue of finishing in the top 10. Josh Erramouspe was named to the Academic All-Region Team and then also named to the Academic All-State Team with only 10 players in 3A golf being named to that team. "It's tremendous to watch the entire team do so well and see all the extra honors that players are receiving," commented Pinedo.
Coach Pinedo said, "It was a great year and we hope to do well at the state tournament next week. Our goal was to win a region title and to win at State so we will give it our best shot."
