The end of the season Culture Connection presentation, double piano recital presentation, was indeed a spectacular, sparkling event. A rare combination of piano virtuosity and well chosen piano showpieces delighted an appreciative audience.

The event at the Price Civic Auditorium recently, (9-25-08) featured the artistry of Jennifer Chiara and Theresa Oldham. Both of these well known pianists are local ladies who have performed in the area on many occasions, but a piano duet is a really rare event. The unison and co-ordination required is demanding.

Jennifer studied piano performance at BYU and Teresa received her piano training locally. We are fortunate to have many well qualified teachers locally.

The program included all well known compositions from world renowned composers with the exception of a recital piece by an American composer, which was very tune full.

The Great Gate of Kiev by Modest Mussorgsky was the opening selection and is musically dramatic as is most of Russian music.

The next piece was the musically exquisite piano concerto by Robert Schuman. Of all the concertos by classical composers the Schuman piano concerto is probably the most musical and well known with possible exception of the B flat piano concerto of Tschikovsky. Four well known and recognized waltzes by Brahms were performed with spirit and animation.

Finally the program ended with four arrangements of highlights from Carmen. This opera is without a doubt the most often performed and recognized of all modern opera.

After an enthusiastic applause the ladies delighted the audience with an encore from the theme song from the Pirates of the Caribbean.

In summary, the concert was a delight to see and hear and we can hope that we will soon have additional concerts featuring Jennifer and Theresa.
