Dinos soar over Salem
By TERRY WILLIS Sun Advocate reporter
The Carbon volleyball team took one more step toward their goal of another region eight sweep with a dominant performance over the Skyhawks of Salem Hills. The Dinos won in three by the scores of 25-13, 25-10 and 25-12.
Salem Hills took a small lead in game one before the Dinos quickly settled down and lowered the boom on the Skyhawks. From there Carbon never looked back. Solid passing, accurate serves and superior kill shots resulted in three quick games. Salem Hills never really threatened throughout the match.
Britni Greenwood and Joy Malone dominated the front line with 24 kills between them. Karlee Martino added six k's and Cherelle Julian stuffed another four. Julia Potts dished up 23 set assists and Brinttany Gustas led the defense with 11 digs.
"We played much better than we did against Emery. Even though we played a lesser team, we didn't play down to their level. We used this game to get ready for Delta on Thursday," remarked Coach Johnson. Commenting on the current second place 3A ranking, she says there are still a lot of teams in the state that don't respect the Dino squad. But with three region eight teams ranked in the top five, it says much about how tough this region really is. And right now Carbon sits on top of it.
The Dinos take on Delta this Thursday on the road. They actually won't be back home until October 14th when they take on the Emery Spartans.
