CEU's music department schedules fall concert on Oct. 2 at Rio Theater
The first fall concert produced by the College of Eastern Utah's music department will be presented Oct. 2 at 7:30 p.m. at the Rio Theater in downtown Helper.
The performance will feature the Castle Strings Orchestra and CEU Chamber Choir under the direction of Russell Wilson.
"The Rio is a great hall for this kind of music," notes Wilson. "Strings and choirs love the natural reverb that is very rich and warm in that hall. We hope to continue to use this Helper gem for more concerts in the future. That's why the concert is free, but we are hoping for some donations to help finish the remaining items of the remodel."
Founded last spring, Castle Strings will present a string piece by Mozart and a chorale by Bach. Guest soloist with the orchestra will be Lane Hoyt, a senior at Carbon High.
The CEU Chamber Choir will sing Renaissance works by Gabrielli and Byrd along with a 20th century piece based on an ancient chant.
In addition, the Castle Recorder Consort will perform at the concert. The new ensemble will play musical pieces featuring the full family of recorder instruments, including the large bass and sopraninos flute.
The event is appropriate for children older than 12 years of age.
