Spartans down Dinos Friday

Sun Advocate reporter

For just a while it looked like this could be the game of the year for the Dinos. But in the end they settled for another big loss as they went down to defeat 41-7.

Emery put seven on the board first, but in a blink of an eye, the Dinos had an answer. They drove the field, doing everything right and Blake Najera carried it across on a one yard run. Tie game.

But then the defense continued to give ground as Emery scored over and over. Carbon headed to the locker room down 29-7. The coaching staff spent time with some strategies for the second half of play during the break. Carbon came back and limited Emery to one touchdown each quarter, but the offense could not move the ball against the solid Emery D.

Paur summed up the game in the locker room to his players, saying "I love this team and I'm not going to quit and go away."

Paur was a little more up beat than last week. "I don't think the score completely reflect the game, but then again I usually don't. We are still struggling on defense. We are lacking on both our offensive and defensive lines, but we continue to push on."

Paur still has hope that this squad will come through with a winning effort in region play. Delta heads in to take on the Dinos this Friday at home and it would be nice if this was the game.

He did say that he is moving forward on his plan to have a separate sophomore squad. He will have them with their own schedule and coaching staff. He had approached Mont Harmon's Coach Blanc with the proposal and felt like the reception to the idea was good. It will be up to the school board on whether this becomes a soph/fresh team or remains solely a soph team.

The Dinos have stepped up their hitting drills and look to tighten up their defense. "We have great kids like Cole Stevens and Damien Olsen out there, but they are small and many times over matched as they try and bring down the larger players they are matched up against.

Meanwhile the bruised and battered Dinos will try once again to regroup for their next Friday night match up. Kick-off is at 7 p.m. and the Carbon High field against the Delta Rabbits.
