The Carbon High golf team posted a 1 shot victory over Juan Diego and a three shot victory over Salem Hills on Thursday, Sept. 18, at Riverbend Golf Course, the home course for Juan Diego. This victory leaves the Dinos 38 shots ahead of both Juan Diego and Salem Hills, who are currently tied for second place, and virtually locks up the region title for Carbon.

There is still one match remaining on Thursday, September 25th, at the Carbon Country Club beginning at 12 noon.

Jordan Pinedo shot the best round for the Dinos finishing with a 77 while Corbin Black was only two shots behind with a 79.

Justin Child and Jaren McCourt both finished with 82's to round out the scoring for the team. This brought the team total to 320, matching the best score of the year.

Other golfers were Gage Bigelow who had an 85, Geoff Vogel finished with an 86, and Ethan Jenks and Josh Greenwood both finished with 90's.

Jordan Pinedo is currently in second place in the entire region and Corbin Black is in third place overall.

Coach Pinedo said, "This will be the second region title in a row for the team and I'm really proud of these young men. It had been a long time between region championships before last year and after losing several key seniors from last year's team, this group really responded to the challenge."

The team totals for this match were Carbon - 320, Juan Diego - 321, Salem Hills - 323, Delta - 340, North Sanpete - 348, and Emery - 357. After six matches the totals are Carbon - 1965, Salem Hills - 2003, Juan Diego - 2003, North Sanpete - 2120, Delta - 2137 and Emery - 2160.

The team will finish out the regular season with the region match on, Sept. 25, and then an invitational that will also take place at Carbon Country Club on Oct. 2nd with Uintah, the defending 3A State Champions, and Union coming to town.

The state tournament will take place at Soldier Hollow on October 8 and 9 where six players will represent the team.
