The Carbon High Dino golf team pulled out an exciting 1 shot victory over second place Juan Diego at the Region 8 golf match held at SunsetView Golf Course in Delta on Thursday, August 28th.

The team total of 327 was just enough to defeat Juan Diego who finished with a total of 328. Salem Hills finished in 3rd place with a score of 337 but maintained their second place position overall in Region 8.

Delta finished with a 349, North Sanpete had a 354 and Emery's total was 373.

The Dino team was led by Corbin Black who finished the day with a 79 and in second place overall as an individual. He was followed closely by Jordan Pinedo who scored an 80 and was in third place individually. Gage Bigelow had an impressive 81 and was in fifth place overall.

Geoff Vogel and Jaren McCourt finished out the scoring for the Dinos with both players having 87s.

Justin Child and Jordon Bigelow were the other twogolfers who competed in the match.

In the region matches, eight golfers are designated the Varsity golfers and from those 8 players, the best four scores for each team are totaled to reach the team score.

After three region matches, the Dinos hold a 27 shot lead over second place Salem Hills and a 42 shot lead over third place Juan Diego. The top four teams from the region will go to the state tournament in October.

The state tournament, just like last year, will be at Soldier Hollow Golf Course located in Midway.

Coach Tony Pinedo said, "We hope the team keeps playing hard and continues to improve. Our goal is to have four players playing in the 70s by the state tournament."

The Dinos next match will be at North Sanpete on Sept. 4 and will begin at noon.
