Helper American Legion starts winning streak
Helper reigned supreme Tuesday against Tooele, after an 8-7 win in Granger on Monday starting a winning streak.
"We played great defense and looked like the team that started this season. We had some key hits and overall played with great energy," said coach Jeff Cisneros. "Esquibel once again had a double and Colby Snow had a triple and scored on a throwing error."
The Granger game started as a blowout but ended up being neck to neck when everything was said and done.
"After some much needed rest over the holiday weekend we came back on Monday and traveled to Granger for a league game," said Cisneros. "We lead 8-3 going into the last inning and then the umpire decided to let Granger have an opportunity to make it a game. He would not call a strike unless a Granger batter would swing at the pitch. This was very frustrating and it almost cost us the game."
According to Cisneros, Hayden Basinger pitched six great innings allowing only three runs. Tyler Bean and Brandon Branch had a big day offensively, both recording three hits a piece. Kyle Esquibel also had a big hit the 5th inning with bases loaded as his single drove home what ended up being the winning runs.
"We struggled still defensively and had three errors but overall played a much better game," said Cisneros.
Helper is currently ranked third place in the league with seven wins and three losses. They will head to Murray to take on the Spartan team Thursday and then be back for a double- header on Friday starting at 5:00p.m.
