Law enforcement investigating apparent attempted murder-suicide incident
Law enforcement personnel discuss the investigation into an apparent attempted murder-suicide incident on July 7.
An unidentified 78-year-old man reportedly committed suicide after attempting to murder a 31-year-old Helper resident in her home at 7:15a.m. on Monday.
According to Helper Police Officer Trent Anderson, the male suspect allegedly attempted to shoot the unidentified woman after getting into a scuffle with the female subject. The woman apparently tried to grab the gun from the man and sustained a gunshot wound to the hand. The man fled the home and the suspect's vehicle was later surrounded by law enforcement officers on Spring Glen Road.
When asked to get out of the vehicle, the man reportedly shot himself and was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman was transported to Castleview Hospital for medical treatment.
The incident remains under investigation, said Anderson.
