PRICE - Bette Ann Nichols, our beloved mother and grandmother, passed away Friday, June 27, 2008, surrounded by her children.

She was born May 23, 1927 in Lawrence, Kan., to Charles C. and Sue Jo Hood Palmer.

In 1945, Bette graduated with a bachelor of science degree in education from Central Missouri State Teachers College in Warrensburg, Mo., where she was actively involved in the Pi Kappa Sigma sorority. After graduation, she worked as a ticket agent for Mid-Continent Airlines in Tulsa, Kansas City and Shreveport.

Bette married her one true love, Allen C. "Nick" Nichols, on Nov. 1, 1945, in Shreveport, La. They lived the majority of their life together in Humansville, Mo., where she initially worked as a medical assistant for Dr. G.G. Robinson and where later, together, they owned and ran Palmer's Dry Goods Store. They were both instrumental in the development of the United Methodist Church in Humansville as well as the production of the Humansville Centennial.

Together, they enjoyed traveling and evening card games with friends. Nick preceded her in death in 1983.

Bette moved to Price in 2003 and made many good friends at the Heirloom Inn.

She appreciated a good book and loved spending time with her family, especially Jackson.

Bette was preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by her children JoAnn Nichols (partner Rick Marsh) of Vancouver, Wash.; David Nichols (wife Suzanne) of Wellington; only grandchild, Jackson Nichols; sister, Charlene Skidmore (husband Robert) of Springfield, Mo.; and niece, Margaret Sue Skidmore.

Memorial services are pending, as Bette will be interred next to her husband in Humansville, Mo.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Carbon County Food Bank or the USO, PO Box 96860, Washington, DC 20090-6860.

Mom, may your memory be eternal.
