Brady Martinez, the former all-state pitch for Carbon High, is playing for the Kansas City Entry in the AA northern league.

The league counts teams in North and South Dakota; Illinois; Winnipeg, Canada and Kansas. Brady is in his second year of pro baseball, having pitched for Charleston and South Carolina last year.

After graduating from Carbon High he enrolled at the University of Utah where he played for a year prior to going on his church mission.

After completing his mission he transferred to Arizona State before signing a pro contract.

Two Carbon High diamond stars received second team class 3A all-star recognition from a Salt Lake sports page. Whitney Williams, a catcher on the Dino softball team and Ron Herrera, center-fielder and part time pitcher for the Dino's baseball team were accorded the honors.

Kevin Nay, named the states outstanding class 2A baseball player this past spring, has committed to attend the College of Eastern Utah and pitch for the Golden Eagles.

Nay compiled an 11-1 record while pitching his Gunnison team to the 2A state championship. In doing so he set a new state career strikeout record with 340.

Local sports enthusiasts sadly noted the recent death of Joe Busico in Tooele.

Busico refereed many a CEU basketball game over the years and was highly regarded as one of the finest referees in the state.

For several years he annually brought his Busico Cash Store basketball teams to the Helper Invitational Tournament, having won the tournament once years ago.

Busico, probably umpired as many softball, baseball and football games as anyone in the state.
