When the votes were tallied at June 24 Carbon County primary, John Jones stood victorious in the hotly contested Democratic county commissioner race. Garnering 54.92 percent of the 2,183 total votes, Jones will go on to face Republican candidate Gerald Lloyd in the November general election.

As for the Utah District 69 representative race, Christine Watkins will move on as the Democratic candidate in the general election. She defeated Grady McEvoy by receiving 65.17 percent of the total state vote that included areas in Carbon, Emery, Grand, San Juan and Wayne counties. Watkins also carried the Carbon primary, winning 62.78 percent of the vote.
