Local archaeology club to host statewide convention at location in Carbon County

The Castle Valley Archaeology Society will host the Utah convention from June 5 to June 8 in Price.

Every year, one of eight chapters around Utah conducts the statewide event.

More than 100 statewide archaeological members have registered to take tours, have a picnic dinner in Pioneer Park and attend several workshops on June 8.

Later in the evening, Price Mayor Joe Piccolo will welcome the convention dinner guests.

The keynote speaker will be Larry Dalryumple a noted author and expert on Native American basket weaving from Aztec, New Mexico.

National Multiple Sclerosis Society's state chapter prepares to host bike ride in June

The biggest bike ride in the state is just around the corner and, according to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, the event is a sleeping giant in many ways.

Last year, the charitable organization raised more than $1.5 million during the event .

The MS society hopes to increase that number to more than $1.7 million in 2008.

The Harmon's Best Dam Bike Ride will take place at the Cache Valley Fairgrounds in Logan.

Residents may register at for the event. Participants will have the option of 40, 75 and 100 mile trails on June 28 with 40 and 75 mile rides on June 29.

Filmaker from United Kingdom to visit Helper to develop Butch Cassidy feature

Lindsay Sutton will visit Utah in June to develop a feature film on outlaw Butch Cassidy and general travel stories about locations across the state.

Elements of the state Sutton has requested to see first-hand include the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' family research center, Sundance and Utah Olympic Park along with Bryce, Zions and Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument.

Local sites of interest include the College of Eastern Utah and Cleveland-Lloyd Dinosaur Quarry.

Specifically with regards to Butch Cassidy, Sutton will be visiting Beaver, Circleville and Helper.
