Stranded runners doom Dinos

Ron Herrera watches a hit sail over the fence for a homerun in the game against Juan Diego last week. Herrera's hot bat was felt again against North Sanpete Friday when he blasted a homerun and a triple to lead the Carbon Dinos to a big victory.

The Carbon baseball team stranded itself in the fourth place slot of the region after it dropped both games of a double- header to Delta. Stranded runners plagued the Dinos offense in both games as they lost 6-8 and 5-15 to the Rabbits.

Delta jumped out early to take a 6-4 lead before Carbon put up four in the third to start off the doubleheader. But the Dinos let Delta add a run here and a run there without any answers of their own from their bats.

Down 8-4, Carbon added a pair to draw it close. In the seventh they had the bases loaded before Delta sat down the final two Dino hitters with a pair of strike outs to end the game.

Carbon started game two with a two run lead before giving up seven in the second inning. They never were able to bounce back. Delta continued to pile on the runs. The Dinos had a decent fifth in which they were able to score three, but the hole they were in was too much.

Ron Herrera had the only extra base hit in the pair of games. He had a triple in game two.

"A couple of bad innings cost us. But we didn't have the clutch hitting we usually have and left too many on base," summed up Coach Moynier. "There wasn't really any highlights to speak of."

The Dinos need to shake off the losses and be ready to take on Emery on Thursday at the Carbon field at 3:30 pm. For Carbon, the outcome will do nothing to affect their standing in the region so the game is for pride. For Emery sitting at 6-5, a win might give them a shot to overtake Delta for second.
