Sheriff James Cordova stands with observers as the group watches two women who called 911 on a cell phone for help after discovering they could not descend from a climb they had made last Thursday afternoon. The pair were hiking near Balanced Rock when they realized they had exceeded their ability to descend the cliff. Dispatch sent police officers and the sheriff's search and rescue personnel to the scene. By the time the rescuers reached the Gigliotti Pond area, the husband of one of the women had already started to ascend the hill to bring the pair of hikers down from the cliff. Rescuers remained on the scene until all parties reached the ground safely.
