West Ridge resumes production, miners return to work at UtahAmerican facility

The West Ridge mine, which was idled during the first weekend in December, has resumed full production.

The employees affected by the idling of the mine returned to work on Dec. 5, according to Rob Murray, vice president for UtahAmerican Energy.

Murray reported that the West Ridge was idled due to geological conditions and the mining of high ash coal.

However, the Intermountain Power Agency was willing to purchase and accept deliveries of the high ash coal that is currently being produced at West Ridge.

IPA is half owner of the mining operation and West Ridge's largest customer.
