AARP drivers safety class - Sessions for motorists ages 50 years and older are scheduled July 30-31 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the health district. To reserve spots, call the health district at 637-3671.

Rape crisis hotline - Rape or domestic violence victims may contact the local 24-hour crisis line toll-free at 1-866-894-8610.

Food handlers classes - Two hour sessions are slated Aug. 14 at 9 a.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the health district in Price. Classes will be taught Aug. 15 at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the health department in Castle Dale. Test fees required. Contact Claron Bjork at 637-3671.

Lifeline pregnancy assistance, support center - offers free confidential pregnancy testing, verification, counseling and baby supplies. Callthe 24-hour telephone line at 636-0700.

Cans for Care-A-Van - The service is conducting an aluminum can drive to help defray the costs of providing transportation to medical appointments for the elderly and people with disabilities. Bagged cans may be dropped off at Howa's. For pickup, call the office at 637-9488.

Carbon County Humane Society - The non-profit organization offers monthly spay and neuter clinics at 98 North Carbon Avenue in Price. The group needs old towels and blankets. Members will pick up good used items for the group's rummage sale. For information, call the humane society at 637-2908.

Carbon County Animal Shelter- AVID chip pet identification is available at the shelter. Hours are Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Carbon County Housing Authority - The office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. The children's library is open to housing residents Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m.

Foster parents - The local DCFS office needs foster parents willing to work with teens and provide emergency shelter care. For information, contact Cindy Saccomanno at 636-0219.

AA, NA - Meetings are conducted at the following locations:

Daily - AA open meetings, noon, at 90 N. 100 East, Price.

Monday - NA at 3 and AA at 8 p.m., open, Four Corners Mental Health in Price; NA at 7:30 p.m., open, Four Corners in Castle Dale.

Tuesday - AA at 8 p.m., East Carbon City Hall, open; 8 p.m. Four Corners in Castle Dale, open.

Wednesday - AA at 8 p.m., 90 N. 100 East, Price , open.

Thursday - AA at 8 p.m., Huntington senior citizens center, open.

Friday - AA at 6:30 p.m., Union Gospel Mission in Helper, closed; 8 p.m., East Carbon City Hall, open; 8 p.m., old Reeves school, Price, open.

Saturday - AA at 8 p.m., 90 N. 100 East, Price, open.

Domestic violence support groups - are scheduled weekly. For information, call the 24-hour crisis line at 637-6589.

Single mothers support group - meets Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Price Community Center. Child care available upon request. No fees required.

Helper library - Hours are Monday through Wednesday from noon until 8 p.m.; Thursday from noon to 6 p.m.; Friday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.; closed Saturday and Sunday. Call the library at 472-5601.

Price library - Hours are Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6:45 p.m.; Friday, 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.; closed Saturday and Sunday. The library is sponsoring free summer reading programs for preschool to third grade students and fourth to ninth graders. Story hour is Wednesday at 5 p.m. and Thursday at 1 p.m. Children Pet Pals activities are Tuesday from 2 to 2:30 p.m. Call library at 636-3188.

CEU library -Hours are Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The library is accepting Carbon High yearbook donations for its archives. Missing years are 1928, 1933, 1939, 1955, 1961, 1966. For information, contact the library at 613-5209.

Family Support & Children's Justice Center - offers crisis care for families with children from infants to 11 years old. Crisis nursery is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Families may use the nursery for respite, family crisis, court, doctors appointments, medical emergencies, mental health appointments, escaping family violence, attending parenting classes/divorce classes and AA/Narcotic Anonymous meetings. Parenting classes are Thursday at 1:30 p.m. Call the center at 637-0281.

Helping Hands - Sponsored by Four Corners Mental Health, the community service youth group meets Monday at 1 p.m. at Washington Park. For information on joining, students ages 11 to 18 years old may call Caroline Barrington at 637-3710 or contact Sandi Auger.

Child Care Resource & Referral - offers information on becoming child care providers and referrals for parents, employees or employers needing related services. For information, contact the agency at 613-5619.

Women's cancer support group - meets the third Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. at Castleview's classroom Located in room 104, the cancer library is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Contact Sherry King at 637-4800, extension 3510.

Helper mining museum - From May 1 to Sept. 30, hours are Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. From Oct. 1 to April 30, hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tours may be scheduled. For information, contact Helen Tonc at 472-3009.

Prehistoric museum - From April 1 to Oct. 31, hours are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. From Nov. 1 to March 31, hours are Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. For information, call the museum at 613-5060.

Habitat for Humanity - Volunteers and donations are welcome. For information about volunteering or submitting applications for the homes, call the Habitat office at 636-3230 between 8 a.m. and noon.

Cancer screening - Southeastern Utah Health District in Price offers checks twice a month for women up to and including age 64. Clinics include breast, pelvic and pap exams at low or no cost. Women 50 to 64 may qualify for free mammogram vouchers. Call the health department at 637-3671 to schedule appointments.

Infant immunization clinics - The health district in Price offers the clinics Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

ABC Learning Center - has books, computers and activities for adults and children. Hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. For tutoring appointments, call the center at 888-2061.

Social Security - Located at the county courthouse in Price, the office is manned by representatives the second Wednesday of the month from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., excluding a half-hour lunch. For information, Carbon residents may call Social Security toll-free at 1-800-772-1213.

Single mothers - Bringing Hope Foundation meets are Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Price Community Center. Single mothers share experiences and learn about community resources. No fees required. Participants must enroll by contacting the foundation at 637-5542.

Caregivers support group - meets the last Wednesday of the month at 3:30 p.m. at in room 140 at Active Re-Entry in Price. For information, contact Lisa Perla at 637-4950.

Eating disorder support group - meets the first Thursday of the month at the Price hospital. For information, contact Sunni Olson at 636-8344.

Caring adult program - Interested residents are encouraged to contact the program at 613-5284.

Schools

Castle Valley Center accepting wheelchairs, walkers - The center will write donation receipts for tax record for residents providing used wheelchairs, walkers, etc., to assist students in the Carbon-Emery area. Donated equipment may be dropped off at the center, 755 N. Cedar Hills Drive, Price. For information, contact the school at 637-9150.

Inspired by the Ancients - Mark Vranesh's mixed media works inspired by rock art sites and landscapes in the state will be displayed until Aug. 26 at CEU Prehistoric Museum.

Veterans

Slovenian Day picnic - The public event is planned Aug. 4 from noon until 5 p.m. at the Price city park shelter.
