Deadline for FYI - is Tuesday at noon. Submissions may be sent by regular mail, dropped off at the office at 845 East Main in Price or e-mailed to fyi@sunad.com. All FYI news items are subject to editing . The FYI sections are published on a space permitting basis.

Helper community blood drive - is scheduled Oct. 16 from 2 p.m. at the civic auditorium, 19 South Main. Type O blood donors are needed.

Defensive driving class - for local motorists older than 50 years of age is planned Oct. 29 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the senior center. For information or to register, contact the senior center at 637-5080.

Shriners Children's Hospital screenings - The free clinic is scheduled Oct. 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Castleview. For information, residents may contact Norm Smith at 637-1132.

Halloween carnival - is slated Oct. 9 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Lighthouse, located at 251 West 400 North in Price. Attendees wearing costumes will receive prizes.

Immunization clinic hours - Clinics are scheduled at Southeastern Utah Health District Monday through Thursday from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Women's cancer screening - Women 50 years of age or older may qualify for a free breast and cervical cancer exams and mammograms. For information, call the public health district at 637-3671. Women ages 40 to 49 may qualify for a low-cost exam.

Free legal clinics - Utah Legal Services has scheduled free clinics the second and fourth Monday of the month from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the 7th District Court complex, located at 149 East 100 South in Price. Residents should bring all pertinent documents pertaining to legal questions. For information, contact the agency toll-free at 1-800-662-1563.

Carbon County Animal Shelter - AVID chip pet identification is available at the shelter.

Hours are Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Carbon County RSVP - Residents who would like to lend a helping hand or need the assistance of volunteers may contact the Price RSVP program at 637-9118 or call the East Carbon office.

Carbon County Family Support and Children's Justice Center - offers crisis care for families with children from infants to 11 years old. The crisis nursery is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Residents may use the nursery for respite, doctor and mental health appointments, court appearances, medical emergencies, family crisis, A/Narcotic Anonymous meetings, divorce classes and to escape domestic violence. Parenting classes are scheduled Thursday at 1:30 p.m.

Child care resource and referral - For information on becoming licensed child providers or obtaining referrals, local residents may contact the program at 613-5619.

Price library - Winter hours are Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 6:45 p.m., Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. and closed Sunday. English as a second language classes are Monday and Thursday at 6 p.m. Basic literacy classes are scheduled as needed. For information, contact the library at 636-3188.

Helper library - Hours are Monday through Thursday, noon to 6 p.m.; Friday, noon to 4 p.m.; and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The library offers Internet accessible computers and will obtain books for patrons through the inter-facility loan program. For information, contact the library at 472-5601.

CEU Library - Hours are Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. Hours vary during holiday weekends and school breaks. For information, contact the library at 613-5209.

Golden Rule Mission - Residents may donate tax-deductible garage/yard sale leftovers to the mission in Helper.

Carbon County Humane Society - offers clinics the second Tuesday of the month at 5 S. Carbon Avenue, Price. Call the society at 637-0588 for appointments.

Second Chance Wildlife Rehabilitation - is a non-profit group dedicated to the care of orphaned, injured or ill wildlife. The group needs adult volunteers. Carbon County residents may call Debbie Pappas at 650-3441 for information.

Price Main Street program - The board meets the first Wednesday of the month at noon in room 207 of Price City Hall. For information, call Melanie Steele at 820-1290.

Helper community development committee - meets Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the civic auditorium.

Castle Country Habitat for Humanity - is accepting applications for homes from eligible candidates. The office is located at 150 South 700 East in Price. Donations may be sent to PO Box 724, Price, UT 84501. For information, contact the organization at 637-9701.

CEU Prehistoric Museum - is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. For information, contact the museum.

CASA - Court appointed special advocate volunteers help abused and neglected children. Adults interested in volunteering may contact the CASA coordinator at (435) 381-5595.

Foster Care Foundation - Carbon-Emery residents interested in becoming foster or adoptive parents may contact Heather Ogden at 636-0210.

Churches

Regional single adult fireside - is scheduled Oct. 14 at 6 p.m. at the Huntington LDS Stake Center. The activity will feature sculptor Dee Jay Bawden.

Fall Fare 2007 - will be presented Oct. 12 from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Oct. 13 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The event will include a gift shop, homemade soups, baked goods, crafters, collectibles, decorator items and an indoor yard sale. Leftover items from the yard sale will be donated to the Helper mission or children's justice center.

Catholic Masses - The schedule includes:

Green River St. Michael the Archangel, Wednesday at 6 p.m..

Price Notre Dame de Lourdes, Saturday at 5:30 p.m., Sunday at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.

Helper St. Anthony of Padua, Saturday at 5 p.m., Sunday at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m., holy days at 8:30 a.m., noon and 7 p.m., weekdays at 8:30 a.m.

Huntington Mission San Rafael, second and fourth Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

New Life Ministries - Services are Sunday, 10 a.m. Services include nursery and children's ministry. Youth meet Thursday at 7 p.m. For information, call Pastor Andrew Lasslo at 472-5913.

Seventh-day Adventist - Saturday Sabbath School is at 9:30 a.m., followed by worship at 11 a.m. Bible study and prayer meeting are Thursday 6:30 p.m. For information, contact the church at 637-1162.

Price United Methodist - Adult Sunday School is at 9 a.m., followed by worship at 10:30 a.m. For scouting and youth information, contact the church office at 637-0127.

Assumption Greek Orthodox - Divine liturgy is Sunday, 10:15 to 11:45 a.m. Holy days services are at 10 a.m. For information, call the church at 637-7398.

Desert Edge Christian Chapel - Sunday schedule includes worship service at 10 a.m.; Sunday School at 11 a.m.

Ascension St. Matthews - The Lutheran and Episcopal congregation meets for Sunday School at 9:30 a.m., followed by services at 10:30 a.m. Potluck is the first Sunday of the month.

On Oct. 6, the church will host a celebration and blessing of animals, pets and residents who care for them. The events will include treats and prizes.
