Veterans

Veterans employment representative - is available Monday through Friday at the department of workforce services, 475 West Price River Drive. The representative will answer questions about benefits and assist with applications, employment and veterans issues. Contact Steve Wilkinson at 636-2343.

Support groups

Recovery classes - are scheduled Monday to Friday at the Golden Rule Mission in Helper from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Classes include relapse prevention, Big Book, 12 steps, traditions, spirituality and life skills. AA is 6 p.m. daily.

Price Recovery group - meets Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the CEU computer building.

Reach to Recovery - The American Cancer Society program matches a diagnosed breast cancer patient with a trained survivor who can answer questions and address concerns. For information, contact Shanna Mezek at 637-3204.

MS support group- meets the first Tuesday of the month at 7:30 p.m. in the conference room at Southeastern Utah Health District, 28 S. 100 East, Price. Wheelchair accessible. For information, call the health department at 637-0712.

Grieving parent support group - For parents who have lost a child, the group meets the first Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the Castleview classroom.

FUTURES - The Carbon County NAMI affiliate, a support group developed for families who have children with challenges, meets the first and third Wednesday of the month. The first Wednesday is designated as a caregiver support night. The third Wednesday is family activity night.

Scooter & Wheelchair Users ADA support group - meets the second Tuesday of the month at 1 p.m. at the housing authority, 251 S. 1600 East, Price.

Domestic violence support groups - are scheduled weekly. For information, call the 24-hour crisis line at 637-6589.

Single mothers support group - meets Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Price Community Center. No fees required.

Life Line pregnancy assistance and support - provides alternatives to abortion for women with unplanned pregnancies. Services include testing, referrals to community resources and supportive counseling. The 24-hour crisis line number is 636-0700.

Look Good, Feel Better - The American Cancer Society program helps women address the appearance related side effects of treatment. The group meets the first Monday of the month from 6 to 8 p.m. at Castleview Hospital. To register, call Debbie Prichard at 613-5302.

Cancer resource center - Volunteers are needed to staff the American Cancer Society information center at Castleview Hospital. Hours are flexible and training is free of charge. For information, contact Gail Harding at 613-1132.

Teen parenting class - is scheduled Monday and Wednesday from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Lighthouse. Thirty-six hours will equal one elective credit.

Helper community blood drive - is scheduled Oct. 16 from 2 p.m. at the civic auditorium, 19 South Main.

Type O blood donors are needed.

Mining related musculoskeletal injuries and disorders - Dr. Joseph Webster will present a free program for active or retired miners and their families on Oct. 2.

The program is slated from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Western Energy Training Center, located at 47 North Highway 191.

Defensive driving classes - Two sessions for local drivers older than 50 years of age are planned at the senior center in Price.

The first eight-hour class will be Oct. 1 and Oct. 2 from 1 to 5 p.m. daily. The second session will be Oct. 29 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Shriners Children's Hospital screenings - The free clinic is scheduled Oct. 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Castleview.

Halloween carnival - is slated Oct. 9 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Lighthouse, located at 251 West 400 North in Price.

Attendees wearing costumes will receive prizes.

Residents planning on joining the festivities should RSVP by Oct. 4.

Immunization clinic hours - Clinics are scheduled at Southeastern Utah Health District Monday through Thursday from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Women's cancer screening - Women 50 years of age or older may qualify for a free breast and cervical cancer exams and mammograms.

For information, call the public health district at 637-3671.

Women ages 40 to 49 may qualify for a low-cost exam.

Free legal clinics - Utah Legal Services has scheduled free clinics the second and fourth Monday of the month from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the 7th District Court complex, located at 149 East 100 South in Price.

Residents should bring all pertinent documents pertaining to legal questions.

Carbon County Animal Shelter - AVID chip pet identification is available at the shelter.

Hours are Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Carbon County RSVP - Residents who would like to lend a helping hand or need the assistance of volunteers may contact the Price RSVP program at 637-9118 or call the East Carbon office.

Carbon County Family Support and Children's Justice Center - offers crisis care for families with children from infants to 11 years old.

The crisis nursery is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Residents may use the nursery for respite, doctor and mental health appointments, court appearances, medical emergencies, family crisis, A/Narcotic Anonymous meetings, divorce classes and to escape domestic violence.

Parenting classes are scheduled Thursday at 1:30 p.m.

The center is also collecting donations for displaced families.

Furniture items will be accepted only if the center has families in need. For information, call the center at 637-0281.

Child care resource and referral - For information on becoming licensed child providers or obtaining referrals, local residents may contact the program at 613-5619.

Cell phones for seniors - are available at Carbon County RSVP. The program provides cell phones that dial 911 in emergencies at no cost to participants.

Price library - Winter hours are Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 6:45 p.m., Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. and closed Sunday.

English as a second language classes are Monday and Thursday at 6 p.m. Basic literacy classes are scheduled as needed.

Local authors Cathy Wilson and Nancy Takacs will be at the library Oct. 3 from 4 to 7 p.m.

Wilson and Takacs have been published in the latest edition of Glyphs and the book will be sold at the event.

Helper library - Hours are Monday through Thursday, noon to 6 p.m.; Friday, noon to 4 p.m.; and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The library offers Internet accessible computers and will obtain books for patrons through the inter-facility loan program.

CEU Library - Hours are Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Hours vary during holiday weekends and school breaks.

Carbon Family Resource Center - Story time is Wednesday at 11:15 a.m. '

The free lending library open to the community includes items for children, teens, parents and grandparents.

CFRC is located at Castle Valley Center, 755 N. Cedar Hills Drive, Price. Local residents may contact the center for hours at 650-3830.



Rape crisis hot line - Rape or domestic violence victims in the Carbon-Emery County area may contact the local 24-hour crisis line toll-free at 1-866-894-8610.

Golden Rule Mission - Residents may donate tax-deductible garage/yard sale leftovers to the mission in Helper.

Carbon County Humane Society - offers clinics the second Tuesday of the month at 5 S. Carbon Avenue, Price.

Carbon County pet owners may contact the society at 637-0588 for appointments.

Second Chance Wildlife Rehabilitation - is a non-profit group dedicated to the care of orphaned, injured or ill wildlife.

The group needs adult volunteers.

Carbon County residents may call Debbie Pappas at 650-3441 for information.

Price Main Street program - The board members meet the first Wednesday of the month at noon in room 207 at the Price City Hall.

Helper community development committee - meets Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the civic auditorium.

Castle Country Habitat for Humanity - is accepting applications for homes from eligible candidates.
