Thunderstorm drops first measurable summer precipitation on Carbon County

A Monday thunderstorm visits the valley and drops the first measurable amount of moisture Carbon County has received during summer 2002. Extremely dry conditions continue to plague not only the Castle Valley region, but the entire state of Utah. The mountains and valleys across the state remain tinder dry, with a prohibition banning all open burning in effect throughout Utah. Carbon County residents are urged to exercise precautionary measures while working on landscapes at private residences and when venturing into the great outdoors for recreational activities. Local residents are also encouraged to watch for potential wildfire problems and report potentially volatile incidents to the proper law enforcement agencies.
