Deadline for FYI - is Tuesday at noon. Submissions may be sent by regular mail, dropped off at the office at 845 East Main in Price or e-mailed to fyi@sunad.com. All FYI news items are subject to editing.

Bereavement support group - will meet Aug. 29 at 3:30 p.m. at Active Re-Entry, 10 South Fairgrounds Road. The session is for UMWA funds beneficiaries and members of the community who care for or have recently lost loved ones.

Canyon Days - The coal mining camps reunion is slated Aug. 11 from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Helper City Park. The potluck picnic will start at 12:30 p.m. Meat and rolls will be furnished. Residents are encouraged to bring items for the prize drawing to fund the event in the future.

Food handlers classes - Two-hour sessions are scheduled in Price on Aug. 29 and Sept. 25 at 9 a.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the public health district in Price, located at 28 South 100 East. Classes will also be taught at the health department in Castle Dale on Aug. 23 and Sept. 13 at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Test fees are required. For information, call Claron Bjork at 637-3671.

Cell phones for seniors - are available at Carbon County RSVP. The program provides cell phones that dial 911 in emergencies at no cost to participants. For information, call the RSVP office at 637-9118.

Carbon County Humane Society - offers clinics the second Tuesday of the month at 5 S. Carbon Avenue, Price. Contact the society at 637-0588 for appointments.

Immunization clinic hours - Clinics are scheduled at Southeastern Utah Health District Monday through Thursday from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Castle Country Habitat for Humanity - is accepting applications. Donations may be sent to PO Box 724, Price, UT 84501. The office is located at 150 S. 700 E. Price, UT. For information, contact the organization at 637-9701.

Free legal clinics - Utah Legal Services has scheduled free clinics the second and fourth Monday of the month from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the 7th District Court complex, located at 149 East 100 South in Price. Residents should bring all pertinent documents pertaining to questions. For information, contact the agency toll-free at 1-800-662-1563.

Price Main Street program - The board meets the first Wednesday of the month at noon in room 207 of Price City Hall. For information, contact Melanie Steele at 820-1290.

Women's cancer screening - Women 50 years of age or older may qualify for a free breast and cervical cancer exams and mammograms. For information, call the public health district at 637-3671. Women ages 40 to 49 may qualify for a low-cost exam.

Carbon County RSVP - Residents who would like to lend a helping hand or may need the assistance of volunteers may contact the Price RSVP office at 637-9118 or call the East Carbon office.

Second Chance Wildlife Rehabilitation - is a non-profit group dedicated to the care of orphaned, injured or ill wildlife. Residents may call Debbie Pappas at 650-3441 for information.

Helper community development committee - meets Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the civic auditorium.

CEU Library - Hours are Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; closed Friday, Saturday and Sunday. For information, contact the library at 613-5209.

Rape crisis hot line - Rape or domestic violence victims in the Carbon-Emery County area may contact the local 24-hour crisis line toll-free at 1-866-894-8610.

Golden Rule Mission - Residents may donate tax-deductible garage/yard sale leftovers to the mission in Helper.

Carbon County Animal Shelter - AVID chip pet identification is available at the shelter. Hours are Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Price library - Hours are Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6:45 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.; closed Saturday, Sunday and holidays. Story time is Monday at 11 a.m. for toddlers, Tuesday at 5 p.m., Wednesday at 5 p.m. and Thursday at 1 p.m. Residents interested in English as a second language or basic literacy classes Monday and Thursday at 6 p.m. may contact Paula Lewis at the library. Carbon County Family Support and Children's Justice Center - offers crisis care for families with children from infants to 11 years old. The nursery is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The nursery may be used for respite, doctor and mental health appointments, court appearances, medical emergencies, family crisis, 12-step meetings, divorce classes and to escape domestic violence. Parenting classes are scheduled Thursday at 1:30 p.m. Furniture items will be accepted only if the center has families in need. For information, call the center at 637-0281.

Helper library - Hours are Monday through Thursday, noon to 6 p.m.; Friday, noon to 4 p.m.; and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The library offers Internet accessible computers and will obtain books for patrons through the inter-facility loan program. For information, contact the library at 472-5601.

CEU Prehistoric Museum -is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. For information, contact the museum.

Foster Care Foundation - Carbon-Emery residents interested in becoming foster or adoptive parents may contact Heather Ogden at 636-0210.

Veterans

Veterans employment representative - is available Monday through Friday at the department of workforce services, 475 West Price River Drive. The representative will answer questions about benefits and assist with applications, employment and veterans issues. For information, local veterans may contact Steve Wilkinson at 636-2343.

Marine Corps League - meets the second Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at the Price American Legion Hall, 27 North 100 West. For membership information, contact David Brewer at 472-8757.

VFW - Post hours are Monday - Saturday from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Meetings are the second Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. Games are on Sunday at 1 p.m. For information, call the post at 637-7424.

Clubnotes

Stella D' America - The Helper Italian-American Lodge will present a summer picnic for members and guests Aug. 12 at 1:30 p.m. at the Riverside pavilion.

NBHA races -are scheduled at Carbon County Fairgrounds on Aug. 28, Sept. 4 and Sept. 18.

District finals are Sept. 29 at 10 a.m. at the Carbon fairgrounds.
