Price Elks Club boxers rock nationals

On July 25-29 the Price City Elks Club took five boxers to Mesquite, Nev. to compete in the National Junior Golden Gloves Championships.
According to coach Mark Montoya there were over 200 of the best boxers from all over the United States in attendance at the event.
The five boxers attending from Carbon County were Chad Collard who is 9 years-old and fights at 55 pounds, Cezly Collard who is 11 years old and fights at 65 pounds, Taje Richardson who is 12 and fights in the 165 pound weight class, Rookie Bales who is 14 and fights at 114 and Clay Collard who is also 14 and 114.
When the final bell rang the Elks brought home two national champions and one runner up to the national title.
According to coach Montoya, Chad Collard was the first to bring home the belt dominating his opponent in all three rounds. Next, Taje Richardson showed real stamina and determination winning his championship title bout.
"Cezly Collard also fought tough," said the Elks coach. "He eliminated his semi-final opponent in 48 seconds of the first round but fell in the championship contest by points to a very tough Hawaiian boxer.
On Aug. 10-11 the Elks Club will travel in part to the St. George tournament with assistant coach Mitch Haden, while the clubs elite boxers will travel to Salt Lake with coach Montoya to face the Tongan National Team.
On Sept. 8 the team will conduct its home tournament at the Price Elks Lodge.
According to coach Montoya the team is also schelduling further bouts with other state teams.
