Black Diamond Legends Rodeo returns to county, performances slated in June

The final preparations are underway for the Black Diamond Legends Rodeo.

The PRCA rodeo has 198 entrants who will be competing at the shows, slated June 1 and June 2.

The event will benefit the Utah American Diabetes Association and local youth. The rodeo begins at 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday nights.

Residents may purchase advance tickets for the rodeo at IFA Country Store, Cowboy Kitchen, Miners Trading Post and Snack and Park.

Carbon County schools receive grant funding from credit union foundation

Three schools within the Carbon County district received funds from the Utah Credit Union Education Foundation's 100 percent for kids grant on May 24.

Grant were awarded to Melissa Hamilton from Petersen Elementary, $4,126.86; Melanie Huff of Wellington Elementary, $2401.10 and Amy Campbell of Creekview Elementary, $2,800.

The grants are one time supplemental funding for specific, innovative, classroom level programs being carried out primarily in schools with greater financial needs.

Rocky Mountain Power preparing to expand company's transmission lines

On May 30, Rocky Mountain Power announced plans to build more than 1,200 miles of 500 kilovolt transmission lines originating in Wyoming and connecting into Utah, Idaho, Oregon and the desert southwest.

Set for completion in 2014, the lines are part of a $4 billion investment Rocky Mountain Power has made to cope with the rising energy demands in the western United States.

Officials indicated that the company believes the projects will provide long-term benefits to the western region via cost effective, flexible and diverse resource development."
