Whitney Oliver battles the swirling wind to make a catch.

After an emotional, motivated win against Delta to earn a play-off berth, the Dinos drew the first place Tooele Buffaloes to face off with. They went down to defeat 12-2 to open up their tournament play. They bounced back and just missed moving on with an 11-8 loss to Union to close out their season.

In the first game a couple of missed plays in the first allowed Tooele to jump on top with a 3 run lead. The Buffaloes put their ace on the mound and the Dinos struggled to make contact. In the second inning, it was again mistakes and tentative play by the Dinos that allowed Tooele to post seven to take control.

Finally in the fourth Ericka Potts put a charge into one and sent the ball over the fence to keep the Dinos from a shutout. Her two run shot scored the only points the Dinos could manage. The only other hit for the Dinos was a single in the second by Paige Pinedo. Brittney Gustas was on the mound for the Dinos in the loss.

Immediately Carbon was back on the field to play Union who had lost earlier to Canyon View. The winner would still have a spot in the play-offs-the loser packed their bags for the season end. By the end of the first the Dinos again found themselves in a three run hole. This time they didn't fold and tied it up in the second. Solid hitting by Pinedo, Kelsey Gillespie Whitney Oliver and Kayla Robinson put the Dinos right back into the game. With Pinedo on the mound, the Cats were unable to add to their lead. The Dinos added to their total in the fourth and then Union knotted it back up.

Carbon again exploded with a string of hits that put four on the board. Union could only answer with one. It looked good for the Dinos as they headed into the sixth holding an 8-5 lead. Needing an out to escape the sixth with an 8-7 lead the Dinos committed the most costly error of the season. With a second chance gift the next batter blasted a three run homer and Carbon's season sailed over the fence with that shot.

Carbon pounded out 14 hits in the game. Pinedo had two, Gillespie had four Robinson had a pair of hits. Whitney Oliver produced two doubles and had four RBIs.

Coach Pinedo was proud of his team even though they did not move very far into post season play, it was almost a miracle they were there at all. "They girls bounced back again and showed integrity and guts after a tough loss." He was also optimistic about next season. "We have eight starters returning next year and we made a lot of progress this season. They can see now the fruits of their hard work. We made a lot of progress, I just wish we could have got started a little sooner. I am proud of all the girls."
