CEU's Eagle Takes First Place
For the second consecutive year, College of Eastern Utah's newspaper, The Eagle, placed first at the American Scholastic Press Association's 2007 competition. In addition to the first place, The Eagle was given special merit for scoring 965 points out of a possible 1,000. It was the only two-year small college to receive the special merit designation.
According to the chairperson of the ASPA's judging committee, Richard M. Plass, Ph.D., The Eagle was an outstanding example of scholastic publication in format, content and presentation. Plass commended the staff for their dedication and concern for the improvement of their publications.
The newspaper received perfect scoring on content coverage, page design and creativity. Other categories included general plan; art, advertising, and illustrations; and editing.
Placing first, behind CEU's Eagle was Interrobang, Barton County Community College from Great Bend, Kan. The paper scored 65 points behind CEU's paper. Second place went to the Hoopee Bird from East Georgia College in Swainsboro, Ga.
The 2006-07 editor of The Eagle is Ben Waldon from Price with Susan Polster as its adviser.
