Carbon stumbles against Juan Diego

As region play heats up each game is a fight to make a move in the standings. That was the case when Juan Diego came into town. A win would have tightened the race, but a loss would give Juan Diego some breathing room at the top. Carbon lost 5-10 and maintained their spot in second place in region eight play. Juan Diego showed why they are ranked 5th for all of 3A teams.
Juan Diego jumped out hard and fast on the Dinos with four in the first. After a couple Carbon errors and a few Juan Diego hits starter Tyler Turcasso was replaced with Kyle Asay on the mound. Carbon put one up in the bottom of the first and the second to keep themselves in the game. Juan Diego opened the lead back up with one in the third and the Dinos went down without a score.
The fourth was where the game ended up out of reach as Juan Diego pounded the Dinos with five more. Carbon was able to shut them down after that, but could not climb out of the hole they had got themselves in to. The Dinos managed a small rally in the sixth. JJ Blue was the offensive bright spot as he blasted one over the fence. The three runs they moved across the plate did nothing to erase the deficit and they went down to defeat.
Coach Troy Moynier was disappointed with his team's effort in the loss. He felt that a combination of physical and mental errors combined with a lack of hitting defined the loss for Carbon.

Moynier summed up their performance, "after rerunning things in my head all night, it was apparent the team was not ready to play when they came to the field. We have a team of seniors and I would think they would prepare themselves to play for the region title. I truly believe last night's game was for the region title and we did not give it our best effort."
He went on to say, "We managed only two hits against a mediocre pitcher. You just can't win games with two hits. Our offense is usually our strength, our defense is a bit shaky at times, but it is our offense that is our strength and we didn't have it."
He concluded with some praise for their opponent, "I give credit to Juan Diego, when they got someone on base, they moved them into scoring position and got some clutch hits, we didn't."
With no time to think about what might have been, the team readies itself for a double header with Emery on Friday. The games will be in Price starting at 2:30 on the Carbon High field.
