With what seemed to be a favorable match up for the Eagles, they had expectations of moving into the second round before heading for home. But the chips didn't fall the way they wanted and neither did the baskets as they were bumped out early by number 5 seed NIC.
The Eagles let themselves get down by 11 before the first period of play was over. Having played NIC four times this season, there was no surprise as the two went head to head again. NIC held the leading scorer in the nation to just 19 points. Tyler Kepkay was unable to take charge. No one else on the team was able to step up and put any big numbers up either. Steve Hassel with 13 and Felix Casperi with 10 were the only other players in double figures for CEU. Casperi was big on D as well with 11 rebounds and two blocked shots, but it wasn't enough to overcome a balanced NIC scoring attack.
NIC went on to lose to Southern Idaho. CSI went on to take the men's SWAC title.
