College Selects 2007 Founders Day, CEU Athletic Hall Of Fame Honorees

The College of Eastern Utah and the Castle Valley community will celebrate the 70th anniversary of the school's founding on March 24.

•The CEU Athletic Hall of Fame committee has selected three individuals for recognition.

Chaired by CEU athletic director Dave Paur, the committee selected the following honorees:

Angela Ross Arnold was CEU's first NJCAA woman's All-American in 1993-1994.

Arnold holds many records in women's athletics at the local college.

Brothers Clark Powell and Douglas Powell will be remembered for their athletic prowess during the 1950s and 1960s at Carbon High and the college.

Clark went on to excel as a member of military athletic teams and Douglas played division one basketball at Weber State College.

•The nominees selected for recognition as distinguished alumni of the college include:

Steve 'Rocky' Johnson, 1973.

Kory D. Judd, 1982.

Mary Cristelli Rynio 1943.

Gene Tobey, posthumous, 1964.

Johnson is active in communications and media. Judd is a chemical engineer with Chevron USA.

Rynio is a civic leader in Rock Springs Wyo.

Tobey was a well-known artist who collaborated with wife Rebecca on ceramic and bronze sculptures, paintings and jewelry.

•CEU Gold Circle donors who will receive the Eagle statue sculpted by emeritus professor James Young include the family of Perry and Rhea McArthur, Grant and Betty Fausett., Shirley W. Thomas, Janet I. Embry, Donna Vee Forsyth Christensen and Marc C. Bingham.

The financial contributions and commitment to the college shown by the honorees have provided numerous scholarships for CEU students.

Carbon County residents interested in attending the CEU Founders Day dinner may make reservations by contacting the college at 613-5256.

The reservation deadline for the event is March 16.
