Lady Dinos down Delta at home

If the Lady Dino's season had a theme this year, it would be "winning ugly." The Dinos posted yet another last second 33-29 win over the Delta Rabbits last Thursday night that was not a thing of beauty.
Carbon did break away from starting out the game in the hole. Thursday they came out and shut down the Rabbits in the first quarter while building an eight point lead. Delta got their bearings in the second and closed the lead to to14-11 at the half.
As Coach Carlson noted, it was like the squad wasn't used to playing with the lead and they came out sluggish in the third and let Delta in the game. Once the Rabbits took a one point lead, the fire was back and they stepped it up.
The lead seesawed back and forth the rest of the game. Late in the fourth, Carlson was attempted to clarify a call with the officials when she drew a T. Carbon was behind at that point in the game and the emotion involved energized the team. They regained the lead. With less than 30 seconds on the clock, Delta fouled Particia Smith. The sophomore hit one and the Dinos clung to a two point lead.
Delta had a chance, but after a time out, threw the ball away. With less than 12 seconds left in the game, Carbon came back down and missed a shot. The scramble for the rebound ended up in a jump ball that gave the Dinos possession. Patricia Smith was fouled again and this time hit both shots to secure the win.
Patricia Smith led the scoring for the Dinos with eight. Julia Potts and Britni Greenwood added seven. Greenwood and Megan Garvin grabbed seven rebounds as well to solidify a good defensive effort for the Dinos. Because of her efforts on both the offense and defense, Coach Carlson named Greenwood as player of the game.
"Our first half play was much better tonight." Carlson remarked after the game. "We had a real let down in the third quarter. They just seem to play much better once they get behind."
The Dino's will travel to North Sanpete on Tuesday and then play host to front runner Emery on Thursday. Only one region game behind the Spartans, they could tie for first in region eight with a victory over their rival. Game time is at 7 p.m. at Carbon High on Thursday.
