PRICE - John Nick Sampinos, age 82, passed away in Price on Dec. 26, 2006 as a result of Alzheimers disease.
He was born in the village of Houmiriani, Greece, on July 20, 1924 to Nick John and Demetra Kotari Siampanis. Married Toula Logiakis in 1954 and, together, they successfully owned and operated the Hi-Spot Cafe for over 27 years.
Affectionately known as "Coffee John," he enjoyed many years of serving his loyal customers and friends.
At age 27, he immigrated to Carbon County, and made Price his permanent home.
Survived by wife, Toula; son, Nick (Toni) Sampinos; daughter, Billie (Sam) White: grandchildren, Angela and John Sampinos and Christopher White, all of Price; sister, Georgia Maragos, Greece; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by parents; and sister, Vasiliki Mihas.
Funeral service Saturday, Dec. 30, 11 a.m., at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church in Price. Trisagion service Friday evening, 7 p.m., at Mitchell Funeral Home, 233 East Main Street in Price. Family will be at Mitchell's Friday and Saturday one hour prior to services. Interment, Price City cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, PO Box 688, Price, UT 84501, or to a charitable organization of your choice.
PRICE - Edwin Martin Laude, age 90, passed away Dec. 26, 2006 surrounded by his family at Parkdale Care Center.
He was born July 22, 1916 in Fredonia, Kan., to Martin Luther and Etta Hunt Laude. Married Ruth Lavinia Young on March 28, 1947 in Rockaway, N.J.
Ed was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Army in the Pacific Theater aboard the S.S. President Johnson.
He was a typesetter for many newspapers, retiring in 1988 after 20 years of service with the Sun Advocate.
Ed is survived by loving wife, Ruth; sons, Larry (Lee Ann) of Dallas, Texas, and Steven of Price. He is also survived by grandchildren, Corrine (Chris) Rasmussen of Salt Lake, Brittany (Mario) Alaniz of Price, Steven Laude Jr. of Price, Josh Laude and Whitney Laude of Dallas, Texas. Also survived by great-grandchildren, Alisha Celeste Alaniz, David Jace Alaniz, Patch Edwin Alaniz and Corrissa Maralyn Rasmussen. Ed was preceded in death by parents; brother, Alan Laude; and great-granddaughter, Cordelia Dee Dee Alaniz.
We would like to thank all of the people that have helped care for Ed the past few years while he battled Alzheimer's.
At Ed's request there will be no services. He was cremated and his remains will be dealt with as per his wishes.

PRICE - Heavenly Father gave Cynthia Marie Owen to us on Dec. 29, 1988 in Price. We gave her back to him with all our love on Dec. 23, 2006.
Cynthia attended Creekview, Westridge and Mont Harmon schools in Price. She was a senior at Carbon High School. She enjoyed swimming and was on the Carbon High School swim team.
She was employed at KFC in Price and was a member of Jobs Daughters Bethel 3 in Price.
She loved hanging out with her friends and especially her boyfriend, Giles Olsen.
Cynthia was a great support to her mom, "RJ," and she was a good con artist to her sister and friends. She could get them to do most anything.
She was full of love and her huge heart was forgiving. Her smile could warm and melt the hearts of anyone.
Cynthia will be remembered by mother, Ruby (Tim) Schmidt of Price; father, David (Brenda) Owen of Price. She is also survived by sisters and brothers, Stephanie (George) of Vernal; Wesley (Kacie) of Hawaii, currently serving in the military; Travis, Kandace, Emily, Amelia, Dillion and Lane, all of Price; grandparents, Joyce Cook of Wellington; William Schmidt of Minden, Nev.; and Carlos and Naomi Owen of Salt Lake. She also had many loved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be on her birthday, Dec. 29, 11 a.m., at the Westwood LDS Ward, 175 N. 1280 West, Price. Family and friends may attend a viewing Thursday, Dec. 28, 6 to 8 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary in Price and Friday prior to services from 9:40 to 10:40 a.m. at the Westwood LDS Ward. Interment, Cliffview Cemetery, Price.
