Forestry and state lands firefighters conduct a controlled burn in Spring Glen on Nov. 29. According to Carbon-Emery fire warden Rudy Sandoval, the crew started working on a federal fuels reduction project last summer. The crew collected dead wood and other fuels, then sorted the materials into piles in Spring Glen. Last week's snowfall provided safe conditions for the controlled burn. Sandoval indicated that the open burn season began Oct. 30. Permits are not required, but local residents should contact public safety dispatch before conducting burns.
